About Us

Heavybag Media is at its heart a collection of people with brains that work forwards, backwards, upside down, left, right and sideways. We approach communication as an art form. There is no magic formula or canned solution. Each brand, each person, each situation is unique and requires a unique strategy, and its own set of tactics. In all cases, we take a holistic approach. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and understanding how all of the parts work together makes it even greater. Content, communication, communities and audiences are fragmented. And yet there are common pathways that connect these disparate groups, and spaces in between where they intersect. The ways in which content and information are aggregated and distributed are copious, both online and off. We are experiencing a fundamental global shift in the way that we communicate. Anthropologists, sociologists and technologists are taking note and monitoring this shift as it unfolds. What does all of this mean for your brand? How do you stand out? What will set you apart? It’s about figuring out how people think, and what motivates them, and providing value. Heavybag Media understands where the pathways connect. We explore those pathways, as they are formed, continually keeping an eye on this shift as it happens. Why? Because every one of us is passionate about what we do and believes that we are just at the very beginning of an amazing ride. Tags:

History

Heavybag Media was founded in 2002 by Jackie Peters and Dennis Peters. (We encourage speculation as to whether Dennis and Jackie are married, divorced, brother and sister, randomly two people with the last name, or 2nd cousins. We’ll tell you the whole story when we have our first meeting with you.) Jackie’s background had been purely in digital. Moving from development, through user experience, design, animation and digital video, and ultimately to strategy development. Dennis’ background is in film and video. Dennis has directed and DP’d in just about every format on the planet for just about every distribution channel out there. The two met when Jackie’s screen design company, Pixelcommotion was retained to create a website for Dennis’ production company, One Black Shoe. Well before YouTube, the two saw the overlap, the potential to distribute content on the internet. And they saw the doors that this would open for so many people. They decided to start a company that specialized in a new style of communication, one that was not broadcast, one-dimensional and assuming. We’ve built and executed on communication strategies for our clients for over seven years. We’ve done huge web portals, tiny little widgets, coasters, community sites, SMS scavenger hunts, mobile games, print, tv, online video, live events, messaging, fortune cookies, branding, pr, community outreach, flash games, user generated media contests, social networking applications, ARGs and lots more than that.
