KMC music hired Heavybag Media to help launch Dixon Drums, a new line in the U.S. Heavybag Media branded Dixon- including the logo, print catalog, website and even the badges on the Dixon drum kits. They're new to the market in the U.S but have already made a big splash among drummers. Dixon also was honored "Best in Show" at NAMM 2008. Truth be told, they're just regular people (musicians) who love making music and want to help drummers do what they do best!
With all of this in mind, Dixon and Heavybag Media organized Beats for Eats. Beats for Eats was a series of food drives in select independent music stores located in Southern California (Singer Music in La Puente, Santa Monica Music Center in Santa Monica and Tom's Music in Victorville). Attendees were asked to bring canned foods or non-perishables to benefit shelters and community centers in each city (The Gary Center in La Habra, Ocean Park Community Center in Santa Monica and The High Desert Homeless Shelter in Victorville). Each turnkey event featured Rock Band 2 on Playstation 3 set up to a real Dixon Drums kit, free food, door prizes and drumming tips and tricks from Jim Stanek (Product Manager at Dixon Drums by day, passionate drummer by night). Check out some pictures of the event:

Overall, it was a huge success. The events drew drummers of all ages, as well as Rock Band drummers, community advocates and those who were interested in drumming but didn't know where to start. We asked attendees to bring canned food and donated an overwhelming amount of food to each of the local community centers and charities. Organizing these events allowed Dixon to connect with their community online and offline, give back to the community and support local independent music stores. The videos and pictures are available on the Dixon Drums blog, Dixon Drums Flickr , Dixon Drums YouTube and on the Dixon Drums Facebook page. Check out Heavybag's own Zack Weisinger rippin' it up on his guitar and the drums!
Stay tuned because Dixon Drums and Heavybag Media just may be doing an east coast Beats for Eats tour!
